These are some of the statistics. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children funded a study by the Crimes Against Children Resource Center in 2006 of youth Internet users. Over a period of 5 years, they found:
An increase from 25% to 34% of unwanted exposures to sexual material.
Online harassment cases rose from 6% to 9%.
The amount of those receiving unwanted sexual solicitations decreased from 19% to 13%.
40% of all young internet users state that online predators asked them for nude or sexually explicit photographs of themselves.
Only the minority of youth who had been victims of unwanted sexual solicitations, sexual material, and/or harassment said they were distressed by the incidents.
About one-third of the solicitations led to the predator making or attempting offline contact with youth.
